First, the food was excellent as was the service, even if the latter were a bit patronizing.
But the ambiance is a very strange mix of funereal music, South Philly dripping glass beads, faux Turkish screens and Trading Spaces design (and inexepensive execution to match). I didn't know whether to look out for the mafia or Paige Davis.
But the food was the reason for the visit this night and the routine Italian menu was quite adequate. My partner ordered mussels which were well prepared, had unfortunately most of the meat had apparently fallen to the bottom of the pot. Only about half the shells contained any meat.
My Caesar salad appetizer was what passes as such these days and the lettuce was almost on the verge of wilt. But the veal parmesian, my benchmark for Italian places, was one of the best ever, with angel hair pasta and perfect saucing. |
